BAHAWALPUR: The people who think that the Pakistan Peoples’ Party has no future in national politics are mistaken, former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani said on Sunday.
He was speaking at a meeting held to review party’s reorganisation efforts in southern districts of the province.
Gillani said that by adopting resolutions for establishment of a south Punjab province and a Bahawalpur province the PML-N government had shown its double standards for the region. He said a five-member committee had been formed to oversee re-organistaion of the PPP in southern districts. Besides him, the committee included former Punjab governor Makhdoom Ahmad Mehmood, Nochi Khan and Nawazish Ali Pirzada, he said.
Makhdoom Ahmad Mehmood said that if a prime minister elected on a PPP ticket had been mentioned in the Panama Papers action against him would have been much quicker and severe.
He said the PPP had won 72 of the 140 seats in Rahim Yar Khan in the local government elections held in 2015.
