Shikarpur: Bilawal Bhutto condoles with family of martyred policeman Rafiq Qureshi

SHIKARPUR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari visited the bereaved family of a police constable, Mohammed Rafique Qureshi, who was killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up to escape arrest at an Imambargah in Shikarpur minutes before the Eid prayers on Sept 13, in Khanpur town of Shikarpur on Monday.

Expressing his condolence to the family, Mr. Bhutto-Zardari offered Fateha for the departed soul. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, former CM Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, Inspector General A.D. Khowaja and other close associates.

The chief minister gave the appointment letter of Amair Qureshi, the elder son of Rafique Qureshi, to him for the post of constable. Rafique Qureshi, along with his two other wounded colleagues, Sher Muhammad Sanjrani and Nazar Mohammed Malik, was taken to the Agha Khan Hospital in Karachi for treatment but succumbed to his serious wounds a few days later.

The chief minister also handed over Rs50,000 and appreciation certificates to the two volunteers belonging to a Shia organisation for laying hands of the two attackers, one of them was captured alive.

Speaking to people gathered there, the CM said the Sindh government with the help of Rangers would launch a search operation against terrorists in various areas of Shikarpur and Jacobabad districts and that would be continued till restoration of peace.

All moral and legal resources would be used for the restoration of democratic process and peace in the province in order to provide legal protection to life, honour and property of the masses. It was the prime responsibility of the Sindh government, he added.

Later, the PPP chairman proceeded to Sultankot Town and Shikarpur, where he held meetings with the local PPP leaders and workers at the residences of former provincial minister Agha Taimoor Khan and Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh, a PPP nominated candidate in connection with by-election to be held on PS-11 Shikarpur on Oct 20, 2016.


On the occasion, Chairman Bilawal asked PPP leaders and party workers to help Imtiaz in the forthcoming by-election collectively for winning the provincial assembly seat and defeating the rival JUI-F candidate.

He was warmly welcomed by PPP workers who were raising the slogans of ‘Jeay Bhutto and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’ when he reached Shikarpur and Khanpur.
