Imran Khan’s decision to boycott joint session of the parliament illogical: PPP

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples Party yesterday ridiculed Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan’s decision to skip the joint session of the parliament – summoned today to discuss the tension with India.

Addressing a news conference here after a meeting of the PPP chaired by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP leaders Khurshid Shah, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Sherry Rehman, Aitzaz Ahsan and Naveed Qamar maintained Imran Khan’s decision was illogical.

“They attended the all parties conference and the national security meeting, what’s so different in the joint session. Nawaz Sharif is an elected Prime Minister and we consider him so,” Kaira said.

He said as opposition parties the PPP and the PTI should attend the joint session to give their input at this critical time.

PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had demanded of the government to summon joint session of the parliament amid tension with India.

The joint session of the parliament is meant to debate the pros and cons of the threats from India especially the war hysteria spread by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kaira said the government was arresting the PPP workers without reasons but the party still wanted to show unity in the national interest.

He said that PPP had always played a vibrant role in Pakistan whether it came to the protection of democratic system in the country or threats and aggression against Pakistan.

PPP had earlier played its role for saving the democracy and is now striving for the security of the state of Pakistan, which is superior to anything, he said.

Other PPP leaders said the government must investigate the Panama leaks to the satisfaction of the opposition parties.

They vowed to support the government on the Kashmir issue and avoid opposition for the sake of opposition.

The PPP leaders said Bilawal had highlighted the Kashmir issue at the all parties conference called by PM Sharif.
