Rs10 BILLION KARACHI MEGA PROJECTS REVIEWED: CM directs LG to award contracts on merit or face music

KARACHI (Oct 25) : Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reviewing the Rs10 billion Karachi mega projects expressed his displeasure over inordinate delay in the implementation process. “I have made a commitment with the people of my city so I would not back out of it. I know how to get the work and get it done.”
This he said while presiding over a review meeting of Karachi mega projects he has launched in the city to construct IMPORTANT roads, industrial areas, improving of fly overs and repair drainage system.
The chief minister reviewed the scheme of university road from Hassan Square to NIPA of Rs770 million and from NED to Safora Chowk of Rs780 million. He asked about the publication of tenders in the newspaper on which he was informed that it would appear within next two days. The chief minister expressed his dismay and said it would have been done so far. “The road is in the shambles. Wide craters have developed into it with the flow of traffic. The reports of accidents and public inconvenience was on the rise. Have mercy on the people and expedite it,” he said. When the chief minister asked about the PURCHASE of snorkels of 100-meter long for the city, he was told that the process was in progress. On this the chief minister said either work with him or find another job. “You have to be responsible, alert in your work and timely perform, otherwise, I am sorry to say you would not be able to work with me,” he hgve loud message to every one sitting in the meeting room.
He was briefed on the reconstruction of Tariq Road. PD Niaz Soomro said that it would be constructed from Shaheed-e-Miullat Road to Shahrah-e-Qauideen and it is a Rs516 million scheme. The chief minister asked the PD to complete this project latest by January 2018.
The PD briefing the chief minister about the rehabilitation of Mosmyat Road from Madaras Chow to Super Highway said that contractors have been pre-qualified. It is a Rs200 million scheme and work on this would be started very soon. The chief minister said that he would personally check the quality of work. “I would recommend you to bring in good contractors and maintain absolute merit in awarding these works, otherwise I would take a ruthless action,” he warned.
The chief minister was informed that construction of Hub River road has been approved at Rs500 million. Only its remaining portion from Sher Shah bridge to Murshid Hospital would be constructed and it would be completed by end of December. Similarly, rehabilitaion of Surjani to Madinatul Hikmat Road would be constructed at a cost Rs750 million. The work is almost at the starting stage.
Project director Niaz Soomro discussed the construction of U-turn at Natha Khan bridge at a cost of Rs141 million which include constriction of the roof top of the flyover. The extra land is being acquired from Pakistan Army for which they have give CLEARANCE.
The chief minister said that he has already approved Rs850 million for widening of Shahrah-e-Faisal on both sides from Metropole to Star gate. This portion must be made most beautiful. He directed the PD that the drainage of the road and duks for adjusting cable may also be constructed. “I am keen to perform its ground breaking ceremony, therefore expedite the required formalities,” he urged the PD and directed chief secretary Siddique Memon to keep reviewing progress of each and every scheme.
The chief minister was briefed on remodeling of Baloch colony Flyover which has been approved at Rs120 million. Some portions of the flyover would be demolished to create extra lane and a bus stop would be developed there. Another scheme of Rs505 million was came under discussion was construction of Drig Road Underpass along Shahrah-e-Faisal with reconstruction of existing right turn.
The chief minister directed the PD of mega projects to expedite the awarding of flyover at Manzil pump N-5. It was approved at Rs600 million and its tenders have been invited.
The other schemes which came under discussion include Rs500 million underpass at Submarine Chowrangi, construction of road from Khairpur Town to Link Road, National Highway, including construction of a portion of road to connect it with Super Highway.
The chief minister directed chief secretary to review the security of the secretariat and open the gates installed on Kamal Ataturk Road.
The chief minister gave completion date of each and every scheme to the PD and directed him to abide by them.
Syed Murad Ali Shah also directed Commissioner Karachi to study the proposal to make I.I Chundrigar Road one-way and find out its parallel road for light traffic.

“When I am asking you about the progress of the each and every schemes why being a full department you are not working to such”.
